Brief History

Chester Wholesale Meat (KZN) (Pty) Ltd was founded by Mr. Nicos Criticos in 1973, from humble beginnings as a one store retailer in Davenport Centre, Durban, KwaZulu Natal. Mr Criticos soon branched off into wholesale with the first wholesale premises being in Point Road. These premises are still held today and boasts the groups first franchise store.

Chester Wholesale Meat (Pty) Ltd is now one of the largest meat wholesalers in South Africa, the company supplies all of the major chain stores, including a vast variety of meat retailers, ship chandlers and other wholesale meat traders. The company distributes throughout South Africa, as well as sales to: D.R.C and Swaziland.

The company operates its own distribution and logistics, with a fleet of over 60 delivery vehicles and has its own on site vehicle workshop.

Chester Wholesale Meat (Pty) Ltd, import a variety of Beef, Mutton, Pork, Poultry, and Vegetables from South America, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Spain, Denmark, China and Belgium. The company operates its own clearing and forwarding department (and imports on average 120 containers, over 3,000 Tons per month.)

Our deboning plant is situated at our factory at Watford Congella, currently deboning approximately 400 Hindquarters per day (approximately 30 ton) of which approximately 90% are A-Grade. We also produce approximately 4 ton Braaiwors daily. In peak periods this amount increases to approximately 10 tons daily. This department operates six days a week.
